How would you describe yourself? - What’s your story?
I am a Business Management Post Graduate, who always had a strong inclination and liking towards crafts. Earlier, craft for me was just DIY, but after I started working with a Textile Designing Firm, I understood the wider meaning of Crafts, specially traditional Art and Crafts and their utilization in the contemporary time.
What is your craft?
I will be introducing Mud Mirror Art, traditionally known as Lippan Art which is a very very old technique (trust me when I say very old, it is so old that even its origin is not known) of decorating houses in the Kutch region of India.
We will also do Wooden block printing which is the oldest technique of printing and Zari Embroidery which originated in Persia and flourished in India during Mughal Rule.
How did this become your craft?
All the credit here goes to my Boss, who has been more of a mentor and guide rather than a Boss. After joining her I got lots of opportunities to explore various Crafts and meet the Artisans personally. Because of this exposure I got a chance to learn everything straight from the artisans who have been doing this from generation to generation.
How does your craft support your wellbeing?
Well, I wont be exaggerating if I say that our lives are nothing without Art.
Can we even imagine for a second - A world without Art, Craft, Dance, Music or Drama? How dull and depressing it would be. These are the things that make our lives colorful. It is not necessary to be an expert or commit hours everyday to benefit from Art. Even small regular activities have the potential to improve our mental well being. It feels so soothing, serene and spiritually uplifting, when you sit down in the evening and draw some random doodles while listening to your favorite music. It is relaxing, meditative and stress relieving.
